Set Your Mood - Take control without spending a fortune on chemical alternatives.

Essential oils can be used to alter our state of mind without compromising our clarity. There is no comedown, no crash, and no risk of dependency associated with most essential oils. Essentials are all natural.  When I became a mother I wanted to keep my babies away from dangers.  I started closely looking at all of the products we used everyday.  I found most of these products like shampoos, body soaps, and household cleaners are full of chemicals!  My journey started when I began making the changes to live a chemical free life that keeps my family healthy.  Essential oils are a perfect match to any lifestyle.   Essential oils were the first medicine – aromatic, concentrated, valuable and oxygenating.  They are the life blood of a healthy lifestyle!

        Relaxation

I'm going to try to make this as simple as possible....

By learning about the main neurotransmitters (Serotonin, Dopamine, Norepinephrine, GABA), and what they do/what they feel like, we can learn how to determine within our minds, what our chemical balance is like between the four (see below).

Once we know this, we can more accurately decide which substances will improve our current mood, based on their pharmacology.

Some essential oils have affinities for our main neurotransmitter receptors, and can increase or decrease their levels in a dose-dependent manner, to chemically alter our state of mind, for hours at a time.

This is the set of oils I recommend all households keep on hand, to be able to alter my mood in any way you feel you need to:

Valerian Root Oil [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/14742369]
+ GABA
- Dopamine
- Norepinephrine

Lavender Oil
+ Serotonin (1A) [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23524167]
- Dopamine
- Norepinephrine

Lemon Oil [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16780969]
+ Serotonin (1A)
- Dopamine
- Norepinephrine

Rose Oil[*]
+ Dopamine
- Serotonin

Rosemary Oil[*]
+ Norepinephrine

Oregano Oil [http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20608992]
+ Dopamine

Peppermint Oil [Studies exist, but are somewhat unclear. Dopamine activation, however, is very apparent.]
+ Dopamine

Helichrysum Oil[*]
+ Dopamine

Activation of the Serotonin 1A (5-HT-1A) and the GABA receptors results in inhibitory action against excitatory neurotransmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine).

*No scientific/medical studies done to confirm the actions of Rosemary, Rose, and Helichrysum oil. This is based on research, combined with extensive personal experience with the oils.

NOTE: Lemon and oregano oil should not be used on the skin. Lemon oil can be used internally, undiluted. Oregano oil should be diluted for skin use and internal use. Internal use of oregano oil kills "good" bacteria as well as bad in our intestines.

Use of a probiotic is recommended if oregano oil is used internally on a regular basis. Lemon oil causes severe photosensitivity and should never be used on the skin.
