"Rigan, John, or Roger were on the mat every day and each one had a slightly different view of each aspect of BJJ, helping me develop my own style and philosophies. The other amazing thing about being part of the SoCal BJJ scene in the 90′s was all of the world class competitors and Professors I was able to meet and train with. Most of them I still maintain relationships with to this day."

Joe has competed across the United States and still competes to this day. But he makes no grand or exaggerated claims. “I am a good competitor, and love to compete, but I am not a gifted athlete. I had to train hard and really pay attention to get where I am today. At this point in my life, my real desire is to be a great instructor and coach. And I believe I am doing a pretty good job of this.”

After getting his Black Belt, Joe had this to say: "When you start training BJJ you look at the black belt as the top, the PhD… But the truth is, it is really just a High School Diploma. Now you know how to learn. And you have a LOT to learn.

Joe visits regularly to train and be with the Vector Family and follows to many competitions to coach his students.
